Ferrari and AF Corse gained a podium in the opening race of the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) 2017. The 488 #51 driven by Alessandro Pier Guidi and James Calado ended the “6 hour of Silverstone”, raced on April 16th, in the second place in the LMGTE Pro category.
The Italian-British duo started from the sixth spot on the grid. However their pace in race was very fast and they gained positions hour by hour fighting Porsche, Ford and Aston Martin GTs. Thanks to perfect strategy at the wall and great work of the team, Pier Guidi and Calado were able to catch an important position.
The Ferrari #71 with Davide Rigon and Sam Bird was fifth. The drivers started second but losed four position due to a collision following the green light. In the fourth hour of the race they paid with 15 second penalty after an incident with a LMP2 prototype.
