FIA GT1 and FIA GT3 championships: the AF Corse Ferrari 458 Italia gained victories and brilliant results. Ardagna-Cirò won two races in the FIA GT3, first podium in GT1 thanks to the perfomances of Salaquarda-Vilander.

ZOLDER, April 22nd – The AF Corse Ferrari 458 Italia, lined up in the FIA GT1 World Championship and in the FIA GT3 European Championship, took the chequared flags of the races at Zolder with great results.

FIA GT3 EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIP

Gaetano Ardagna and Giuseppe Cirò in the AF Corse Ferrari 458 Italia #50 won both race 1 (Saturday 21st) and race 2 (Sunday 22nd). The two drivers staged a stunning recovery to conquer Zolder’s wet-dry conditions and take victory in race 1 of the second round of the FIA GT3 European Championship. The same in race 2: Ardagna and Cirò were very fast and their pace was unreachable for anyone. At the end of the Belgian week end, they had a great double victory.

Important results also for Stefano Gai and Michael Lyons on the other AF Corse Ferrari 458 Italia GT3. The Italian-British crew finished race 1 in third position after the pole position and an hard challenge in the final lap. They were in the first position for many laps in the rain. In race 2, Gai-Lyons were fifth, recovering after a not too fast start of Lyons and gaining more valuable points in the championship.

In the overall Driver classification of the European FIA GT3 championship, after two round, Ardagna-Cirò are in first position (69 points). Third Gai-Lyons (58 points). In the Team standing, AF Corse is strongly at the top (128 points against the 99 of the second team).

FIA GT1 WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP

After the Nogaro’s debut and its results affected by the changeable weather during the weekend, the AF Corse Ferrari 458 Italia gained important result and points also in the FIA GT1 World Championship.

In the Championship race (Sunday 22), Filip Salaquarda and Toni Vilander took the chequered flag in third position and showing that the 13th place of qualifying race (Saturday 21st) was absolutely below the real potential of the cars and of their talent. They were very fast in the free practice sessions but the weather conditions played a remarkable part during the two qualifyng sessions and race 1.

Francesco Castellacci and Enzo Ide finished the qualifying race in seventh place: the result is very positive considering they started from the pit lane for a technical problem during the formation lap which forced them to return to the box and to start from the pit lane. In the championship race, the duo finished in eleventh place, result heavily affected by the bumping of another car on the track. Castellacci-Ide lost 40 second after the crash. Despite this incident and the damage, the Ferrari 458 Italia of Castellacci-Ide was always among the three fastest cars during its stint. On balance, the performances of the weekend at Zolder do not modify the ambitions of the two crews in the FIA GT1 World Championship.
