FIA WEC, Silverstone – One-two for the 488 in LMGTE Pro, victory of the 458 in LMGTE Am.

Absolute success for the AF Corse Ferraris in the in the 6 hours of Silverstone, opening race of the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC). In the LMGTE Pro category, the 488 #71 driven by Davide Rigon and Sam Bird ruled from start to finished and won. The 488 #51 with Gianmaria Bruni and James Calado took the chequered flag in second position after a great come back from last position. The successes for Ferrari and AF Corse do not end there. In the LMGTE Am category, François Perrodo, Emmanuel Collard and Rui Aguas won in their Ferrari 458 Italia #83.

LMGTE Pro – One-two of the 488s thanks to performances of the cars, skill of the drivers and perfect strategy of the team. Rigon started from the pole position in the #71, Bruni was last due to a technical issue during qualifying relegated him to the back of the grid. Rigon and Bird took from the very beginning the first position. They increased the lead on the pack lap by lap and won. Bruni and Calado, following the green light, climbed to 4th place. At that point, the race director called him back to the pits to wait out the stop&go required to change the engine. From there, Bruni and Calado started the great comeback thanks to very fast laps, hour by hour, up to the second step on podium.

LMGTE AM – Perrodo, Collard and Aguas triumphed in a perfect race. The trio was protagonist of the race with very fast stints. Step by step, they gained positions from the fourth spot on the grid to the first under the flag. For Perrodo, Collard and Aguas is the second victory in the FIA Wec.

The next race is scheduled at Spa-Francorchamps, May 7th.
